BRIEF: Police suit to remain in Dallas

The motion to transfer a defamation lawsuit brought against UTD and the UT System from Dallas County Civil District Court to Collin County Civil District Court was denied Jan. 21.

Former police department employees, former Assistant Chief Debra Marable and former Officer Ryan Ballard brought the case against UTD and the UT System after they were fired from the UTD Police Department in July 2009.

According to case documents, plaintiffs claim they were fired after filing a complaint with the UT System against former UTD Police Chief Colleen Ridge.

The motion to transfer was denied by District Judge Gena Slaughter, who found that the case was properly filed in Dallas County, said Marable and Ballard’s lawyer, Dan Wyde of Wyde, Fox & Nation.
