UTD has unveiled the second fight song in recent months.
In August 2007, the Fight Song Committee finalized a first draft of the fight song, but was never made official and eventually rejected.
"Students thought it was too hard to sing and not catchy enough," said Darrelene Rachavong, vice president for Student Affairs.
This summer, students and staff on the committee narrowed down the lyrics and music to "Tiger Rag," a song recorded in 1917 and used by sports teams such as the Detroit Tigers baseball team and the Louisiana State University Tigers football team.
Students at Comet Camp will learn the lyrics and will be formally introduced during Welcome Week at the Freshman Convocation.
"It will get stuck in your head," said Cassini Nazir, the web developer for Student Affairs. "We are trying to set it up soon where students can put the song on their phones as a ring tone."
