My two cents

Am I too random?

This last week some of you suggested that I might have multiple personalities because I jump from topic to topic like J. Lo jumps from man to man. Well if one thing is certain, it's this: I'm not schizophrenic, and neither am I.

The World Cup it was not, but the UTD women's soccer game against the University of Dallas (UD) was a battle to determine the best team in D-town that doesn't start with SMU.

When sophomore Theresa Buckles drove home the game winner for the Comets in the first overtime, one fact was established: at the end of close games, UD Buckles under the pressure.

When the men's soccer team tied Hardin-Simmons 2-2, I got to thinking. If you asked me what would happen if you put liquid Simmons in the freezer, would it be inappropriate to say that you would harden Simmons?

SUAAB announced that LL Cool J is coming to UTD Nov. 3 because its top two choices aren't currently touring. I don't want to call anybody a liar, but at the men's soccer game against McMurry, Yellowcard made three appearances.

Now I consider us to be pretty good friends, so I think it's only fair that you be honest with me. If I told you that a big match-up of the week was the Sun against the Storm, would you think I was talking about the WNBA finals or the weather in Florida?

The NHL season failed to open Oct. 13 because of a lockout by owners. My condolences go out to both people who watched hockey on TV last year.

The NHL has sunk so low that while there was no mention of the lockout, the top story on nhl.com was about a former All-Star who tried bobsledding. I guess hockey executives hope that if they forget about the lockout it might just go away, which coincidentally is the same hope the rest of us have for the NHL.

Did you hear about this? Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets traveled to China for an NBA exhibition game against Sacramento. With the language barrier, the players weren't able to jaw at the referees as much. Chris Webber couldn't call a timeout his team didn't have.

Basketball is fast replacing soccer as China's favorite sport, at least among young men. Shanghai expects to sell out the game and has hundreds of Yao jerseys in stock. My one question - how do you say "Cha-ching" in Chinese?

I've been a Braves fan since before I could say Antonio Alfonseca, but this made me mad. After being arrested for drunk driving for the second time in four years, Atlanta shortstop Rafael Furcal was sentenced to 21 days in jail to begin after the Braves were eliminated from the playoffs.

Since when do criminals get to plan their incarcerations to best fit with their schedules? What's worse, he got off with little more than mud on his face after he got caught stealing second base.

There's such a sense of urgency in the air during postseason baseball that every inning is fun to watch. So, if you're looking for me this week, I'll be camped out in front of the TV.

Me too.
