The longer, the better. It's true, at least, for the UTD women's cross-country team.

In their first six-kilometer race of the year, the Lady Comets ran away from the competition and claimed six of the top ten places. Their efforts won the team gold by a landslide at the University of Dallas meet Oct. 2.

Accustomed to running 5K races, the women were led by sophomore Leslie Dixon for the third time this year.

Dixon's time of 25 minutes, 22 seconds was fast enough for second place individually. Not far behind Dixon were sophomore Chara Price (4th), senior Angelia Wightman (5th), graduate student Claire Burrows (7th), sophomore Alyssa McMenamy (9th) and junior Angela Tracy (10th).

At the same meet, the men finished third in their 8K run. This was despite a season-best 31:44 from junior Jeremiah Masterson. Freshman Jonathan Green finished two places back in 10th.

At the Oct. 9 meet at Tarleton State, Price shaved a minute and a half off of her personal-best 5K time to finish 19th. Price led the Comets to a sixth-place finish against mostly NCAA Division II competition.

The men did not fare as well. No UTD runner cracked the top 30. Green paced UTD and finished 31st. Junior Stephen Richard finished one spot back with a personal season-best 31:32.
