Waterview Park Apartment No. 2314 residents have some remodeling to do after a 2005 Toyota Camry smashed into their porch on Oct. 8.
The driver, 61, was traveling north on Waterview Parkway when a red sports car attempted to change into her lane. She swerved over the curb, onto the field separating Phase 2 and Waterview Parkway, cleared another curb and hit a fire hydrant, and applied her brakes a few feet from the apartment, according to university police.
"The car was leaking oil, and so I turned off the car," said business administration junior Matt Volschenk, who witnessed the accident. "I didn't want to move her in case she was injured."
Neither the residents nor the driver were hurt.
The apartment had no internal damage, but a pillar and fence supporting the porch have been destroyed. The damage is believed to be more than $10,000, according to Waterview Park officials.
"I was making a sandwich when it happened," said ATEC senior Crystal Layman, Apt. No. 2314 resident. "I heard a loud crash, and glass flew in my sandwich."
Check back tomorrow for more updates.
