Blog Bites

With the economy in a nose dive, I can't help but notice that the art world (or at least The New York Times) seems to bemoan the coming times in which an auction house can't even bring in half of its night's estimate. The end times are upon us! … I feel for those collectors who are losing money on their investments and those artists who might not receive that grant they were hoping for, but I hope this brings out a greater appreciation for art as a whole instead of looking at art as a commodity. Yes, hard times are ahead for everyone, but I've always believed that adversity breeds creativity. Just like the dotcom crash, the art bubble is bursting, but I'm looking forward to it. I think this is just the kind of catharsis art needs.

The lyrics (on The Ghost's album "Young Fridays") certainly leave something to be desired, with most of the songs revolving around him drinking himself into oblivion or girls making poor decisions in their relationships. Many songs make use of some sort of rhyme scheme, but the rhymes are often so obvious, trite and simple, I remain convinced he employed the use of some eighth grader's English assignment and changed a few of the words to fit his themes of booze, friends he hates and girls he either doesn't want or can't have.

The worst thing about lies is that they never die in the digital age. A woman just called us to ask why we are ignoring the BIG NEWS that Obama is not a citizen. Good grief. People, that was debunked long ago. Really? My uncle just e-mailed me a hoax about carjackings that is more than four years old. Oh well, forward this blog post to 10 people in 10 minutes or you'll have 10 seconds of bad luck.

Just about everyone was taunting distraught school board trustees, themselves appearing to teeter on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Ladies and gentleman, this is your Dallas Independent School District. Last night, DISD's trustees voted to suspend next year's elections and change their own terms from three years to four amid an endless chorus of catcalls from a seething, restless audience. The board's timing is rather elegant: In the middle of the darkest, deepest financial crisis in the history of the district, the board members who fiddled around while Rome burned want to remain Caesar.
