The following is a breakdown of some of the actions taken at the Sept. 16 Student Government (SG) meeting. Full minutes of all meetings can be found at www.utdallas.edu/student/sg/minutes/index.html.
- IR submitted a draft proposal to outsource e-mail to Microsoft Exchange labs, as Microsoft already has a contract with the UT system.
- SG allocated $500 to send two Alpha Phi Omega members to their national convention in Boston, Massachusetts.
- UTD President David Daniel announced a 10-year goal to enroll 25,000 students.
- In approximately one year, the online Student Information Service will be open 24 hours a day.
- The SG forums have been updated to use NetID. Visit the forums at sg.utdallas.edu/forum.
- SG had its first Sound-off, where students voiced their opinion to SG senators. Students replied that the school is peaceful, but among the complaints, students wanted more clocks and bike lanes.
- Upcoming Senate sponsored events include: Alpha Gamma Delta tailgate from 3-5 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Activity Center parking lot and Sigma Alpha Epsilon's Rock the Campus for the Cure starting at 3 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the Student Union Mall.
- New appointed senators included: Nate Bleker, Haroon Hashimi, Clifford Hseih, Zayd Mabruk, Prashant Raghavendran, Bryan Thompson, Lye-Ching Wong and Eddie Wood.
The next SG meeting will be on Oct. 7.
Clarification: In the Sept. 8 issue of The UTD Mercury, "Student Government Report: Sept. 2" incorrectly stated that university officials had rejected the dog park. Officials only rejected the location.
