Know your legal rights
Student Government will be hosting its second Know Your Rights Day from 7-8:45 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Conference Center, Room 1.112.
There will be booths to hand out information, a video and free food. Sgt. Rick Bauer of the UTD Police Department will give a presentation and take questions from the audience. The video will teach students how to legally, politely and effectively justify your rights during encounters with the police.
Handouts will teach students their constitutional rights and about the police and guards on campus.
Spring homecoming theme selected
The homecoming Committee will have a meeting on Nov. 14 to continue planning for homecoming. The theme for this year's Homecoming week, Feb 2-7, is "Through the Decades."
Homecoming week will start off with a variety of activities and lead up to men's and women's basketball games.
Yahoo Zimbra may provide e-mail
Students and faculty may be using a new e-mail service next semester, according to Jim Gary, vice president for information resources.
IR must first review bids made by other companies and select the product providing the best value, Gary said, but an IR committee and the Student Government (SG) Technology Committee recommended Yahoo's Zimbra service to replace UTD's email service, which is currently hosted on campus servers.
Gary's previous recommendation, Microsoft Exchange Labs, was opposed by students who did not believe it worked well enough with Web browsers other than Internet Explorer.
