Electrical engineering junior Jorge Bermeo moves his king in a match against grandmaster and UTD chess team member Alejandro Ramirez on the ground floor of the McDermott Library. The match was part of the "Chess Grande" demonstration. Ramirez played challengers with his back to the chess board, calling aloud his moves without looking at the board.

The no-look chess matches were part of the seventh annual ChessFest, sponsored by the McDermott Library and the UTD Chess Program. This year's program included a presentation about chess and education by Stephen Lipscultz, who was also awarded "Chess Educator of the Year Award."
